Boat and Tote: Now in Dress Form

I’m sure it’s not news to any of you that the LLBean Boat and Tote bag is a true classic and an affordable staple: it is so sensibly priced ($30 for the largest one!), made in good old Maine of super strong canvas that can hold up to 400 pounds, and can be customized with many colors and monograms. Who needs an “it” bag when you can carry something endorsed by generations of sensible grandmothers? We have several extra large ones that we use for laundry baskets (they stand up by themselves!), as well as a small one with babymouse’s name on it (one is never to young to monogram).

For those who are completely commited to the Boat and Tote motif, I am happy to report that Built By Wendy has created a very cute dress inspired by the iconic bag. While expensive for a sundress, you can pretty much declare it your official fashion statement for the summer and wear it every weekend. My only disappointment is that the only monogram available is “BBW” (Built By Wendy), rather than your own. The Monogram Tote Dress is $292 at the Built By Wendy website.

I like this dress but I would really wnat to have my own monogram. Is it available without the monogram. Then I could have it monogrammed with my initials. I also think this dress is a bit pricey for what it is. It looks like it would be pretty easy to make. If I have time this afternoon I’ll try to run over to my tailor and ask how much he would charge to make something similar.

this is something I probably wouldn’t have made just because it is such an original design, on the other hand it is very expensive

I’m a great fan of B&T bags. When I was in college during the “preppy” era of the late 1970’s, there was a certain group of women who carried their books in B&T bags (probably a carry over from sailing weekends.)
I have two bigs ones that I use for groceries that must be 15 years old and are still going strong. I also have a zip-top version that I had monogramed with “STUFF” that I use for schlepping to and from work.

Okay, the B&T dress is cute, but not $292 cute! Maybe next season they’ll put a version out in a Simplicity pattern…

Andrea you are right, $282 is too much- I am just a sucker for a theme dress! Maybe if you could get your very own monogram it would be worth it…

“Stuff” is a great monogram- nice and non-commital
