Nifty Gifties from JA

I cannot get over all the exciting new offerings over at Jonathan Adler. You now those Windows 7 commercials where the people tell you how they had a brilliant idea (technically, a superior looking version of them had a brilliant idea) and they wrote in and voila, Windows 7? Well, about a year ago I wrote to the folks at JA and suggested that they make a smaller version of the Lampert Sofa, and Voila the Junior Lampert was born. You’re welcome world. But on to the new items I need and can truly afford. Letterpress stationary! I can use it to write to all of my friends who are moving away. Say, CountryMouse for instance. 6 notecards with coordinating envelopes are $14.95.

Cleaning out a closet is so calming. After CityMouse’s inspiring closet transformation I undertook a good clearing of Babymouse’s closet, well that and the fact that we are selling our house soon and I need to make it look like no one lives here, never mind a three year old with a lot of stuff. So after a few hours of sneaking obsolete toys off to the salvation army, removing the pictures and shelving, repainting the inside of the closet white white white (it was formerly a flesh beige that I hated but never got around to painting, but I can’t take a risk of a dirty flesh colored closet in this real estate market!) and replacing the shelving and prints, here it is! It looks ridiculously empty for a child’s closet. But relatively clean. I also got my closet shelving from easyclosets, suggested by CityMouse years ago, and the white is cheaper than the wood color in City’s kitchen closet and is just fine for a kid’s room. It really is the best solution short of Ikea pax for closets, and inexpensive, like about a thousand times cheaper than california closets and I’m not sure it isn’t made of the same materials.

Sorry if the title of this post was misleading Mom, I’m not pregnant. But some of our reader are and this one is for you! CountryMouse has previously posted about the Norma Kamali all-in-one dress from Walmart. It was also featured on the Today Show this week. But did you know that it is also available as a maternity dress??? Even better, its just $14. That’s $14 for 5 different dresses. That’s such a good deal it almost makes me wnat to get pregnant. Almost. Again, sorry Mom. Preggos, please also check out this dress from Norma. That one is so cute that I may just order it and hide it away for a few years.

I have bird legs. Its not something I’m proud of, just a fact. Because of the little twigs that hold me up I thought skinny jeans seemed like a great idea. The problem is that I do not have a bird stomach. Quite the opposite really. And skinny jeans are not just skinny in the legs, they assume you have an equally thin gut. So I’ve recently been considering denim leggings. This is a concept that I want to hate but am intrigued by. I’m considering a kind of pricey pair of 7s becuse the reviews are so good. Oh, and Rachel Zoe like the, so clearly they are awesome. Right? They’re $149 and I am currently accepting input on them. I’d also be willing to consider this far less expensive pair from Victoria’s Secret. I typically think their clothes are a bit trashy but this is a post about denim leggings. *Ring Ring* Pot. Kettle. Black.

I heart you Tory Burch, I really do. But sadly I just don’t have enough cash to justify a $200 tunic. And now I don’t need to! This adorabley Tory-ish tunic is from Kohl’s and its on sale for $31.20. Now that price I can swing. In yo face overpriced tunics!

If you have ever thought the clothes at Anthropologie were just not quite precious enough, I have good news. Leifsdottir, which is apprently a sister line, has all of the confusingly expensive ruffly tops one could ever want. This sounds like I do not like Leifsdottir, but I do. Well to be honest I would never dream of buying any of this stuff at these prices. But I do love looking at it, and I think this super structured yellow trenchcoat above is pretty adorable, you could really win the cute war in that thing. It is $478, which is so, so wrong, but I will definitely be stalking this in hope this site ever gets a sale section. Look at that white trim at the waist and hem- cute! Continue reading »

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our sincere apologies for the sporadic (or less than sporadic) posts. CountryMouse has been consumed with getting her home ready to go on the market in preparation ffor the move to NYC and I have been consumed by tax season (I know, way less exciting). I’ve also been spending lots of time getting my home into shape. It was pretty neglected when we moved in because all of our free time was devoted to wedding planning. Anyway, here’s my most recent project. We have a very small kitchen. Its basically the size of a small suburban walk-in closet. The problem is that we came from a home with a very large kitchen and thus have tons o’ kitchen crap with nowhere to put it. So we have spent the last week or so converting the coat closet into a hybrid coat closet/pantry. Continue reading »

Is there a new show designer at Ann Taylor? I always use to think that all of their shoes were cute but just slightly off somehow. Either the toes were a little to round or the heels weren’t quite high enough. Clearly they’ve moved past the heel height issue. These have a 5″ heel! Watch out CountryMouse I’ll be your height soon. Soon as in the next time they have a 30% off coupon because at $178 these will require a discount. I also love these, but the roundness of the tow will require an in stre inspection.
