Moustaches and Sharks

September 30th, 2009

Ok, now moustaches in band-aid form! although I definitely see a waterskiing ramp and plastic shark ahead in the water for ironic moustaches, these are still pretty cute.  They are 7$ at Urban Outfitters.

Bet Your Booties

veraboots.jpg

These buttoned faux lather booties are pretty cute, and only $45!! They are Vera Wang for Kohls.

Also, after thinking about it for a while I decided I love the over the knee boots that are all over, they seem so warm and cozy, they remind me of pirates, and they are sure to cover up more of the scantily clad high schools students that roam my town in blouses and “leggings,” which are in many unfortunate cases actually tights, not too opaque either.  Also a turtleneck and these will definitely make summer dresses last pretty much all winter.  The problem is with all that leather they are kind of an investment, the versions by the normally ok priced Stuart Weitzman orVia Spiga, for example, are over 500!  Yikes.  The best thing to do is get the ones that fold over to regular old knee height in case you don’t want over the knee in the future.  Even so, these Guess ones are not so terrible at $199, they come in black and mushroom, I love the mushroom, I personally have no business wearing mushroom colored over the knee boots, but these would look greaton  someone.

It Smells

September 28th, 2009

bubbles.jpg

My soon to be 3 year old son loves smelling my perfume bottles, mainly to determine whether they smell like anything at all.  He comes along and sniffs deeply, and in the event they do (have a scent, usually yes) he will knowingly inform me  “it smells.”  He never seems too pleased about it either.

Anyway he loves bubbles, the kind you buy in the 99c bin at Target with the wands?  Imagine my delight when I came across these Agathe’s Bubbles in this month’s Vogue, which clearly are bubbles that smell.  They are by Francis Kurkdjian, who is a perfume celebrity and also does scented installation art, that is him above smelling bubbles at Versaille, where he has also apparently scented the fountains.  How do these things happen?   Anyway, the bubbles come in pear, cold mint, and cut herbs, of course they do! Fun for me, fun for babymouse.  I won’t be leaving these in a bucket on the porch, however.  The bubbles are supposed to be available at Bergdorf Goodman,  Liberty of London, and Neiman Marcus at some point this fall.  Stalk the Liberty of London site, done and done.

Ode to J Crew- By the J Crew B Team

September 24th, 2009

sweater.JPG

I do like JCrew very much, it is tied with Zara for best store at the mall in my opinion, but I never do our ode because I really can’t compete with the love CityMouse has for JCrew.  Not only is about 98% of her wardrobe from JCrew, she even has a sparkly JCrew credit card and has on several occasions been invited to brunch by JCrew, because they are friends.  JCrew once gave me a bottle of water when I was really pregnant, but never any baked goods.  But because CityMouse is off in Africa skydiving with giraffes or some such nonsense, I will do my best.

I really like the tie front of this cashmere cardigan, and I love the deep mustard yellow color.  JCrew really has making me think I need another cardigan down to a science.  It is 198$, not cheap, but they’ll be a coupon code.  They’ll?

I have to say this dress is just about perfect, sleeves, puckery pleating at the neck, navy wool.  I think you could wear a turtleneck under when it is really cold.  It is $188.

This sweater looks so cozy, I love the pockets and the vneck

This little pointe shoe necklace  from crew cuts is so adorable.   I would have loved this when I was a little girl deep in ballet mode.

Isn’t this a great idea?  lovely porcelain stems instead of the straggely ones currently on my kitchen table.  It is $65.

shoes2.jpg

Remember when you could buy shoes for like 50$?  This is making me sound old. Lately I find myself regularly spending over 100$ for shoes and I do not like it.  I don’t know that I could ever get the nerve to spend 500+ for the really cute ones.  Anyway these are 69$!  Good for old timers like me.  I like the way they have a platform appropriate for fall, and also are a little open at the top, so you can wear then right now until it gets truly cold.  This is good because lately in New England it has started out freezing and ended up 80 degrees most days.  It’s all trees and weather around here.

Iomoi

IomoiIomoi

I know it seems like my wedding was a million years ago, so it might seem strange but tomorrow we’re actually leaving on our honeymoon!  We’ll be on safari and touring the wine country of South Africa for the next two weeks.  In the meantime CountryMouse will be holding the fort down here.  I’ll try to stop by occassionally to discuss the merits of various forms of insect repellant and to update you on my attempts to bring a zebra skin rug back into the states.  BTW, the images above are not actually from my honeymoon they are a few of the many new and adorable stationary designs available at Iomoi

wool.jpg

Yes, this wool and the gang knit your own scarf kit is $85, a.k.a the cost of an actual completed scarf, but it is a cute gift nonetheless and comes with a FREE 80’s band reference and pun!  It’s so inviting to me.

flowerbomb.jpgI

and now for the “favorite things” division;  I can’t get enough of flowerbomb by Victor and Rolf.   Whenever I get near it I want to drink it.  I haven’t bought it because I just bought this, but it is next on my list, for sure.  I just stocked up in sample cards and I can’t stop sniffing them!  Please smell this if you haven’t already.

Also, this kind mango macadamia bar is sooo delicious.  Despite the fact that it has macadamias and is super sweet and delicious, so so delicious, it only has 190 calories and is pretty filling.

Apartment therapy suggested framing these amazing wrapping paper sheets from cavalinni; framing wrapping paper is a great idea, it’s just so often it is a running pattern, these are single motifs, and less than 5 $!

As I’ve mentioned 2-30o times, my son is allergic to wheat.  Through his allergy I have learned that my capacity to be thin is also allergic to wheat.  Seriously, if I cut out wheat within 24 hours my shoes are loose, my wedding ring is loose, and I am congratulating myself for miraculously achieving a fast metabolism through force of will  (it always takes me a few days to accept it’s just the wheat).  Anyway CityMouse’s wedding was a crazy wheat fest of delicious food that left me looking like I was actually encased in a loaf of bread.  So I am back on the no wheat plan, I feel better already! Here is an awesome round up of gluten free cookie recipes (come on it’s autumn!).  I have tried many of the recipes on this site and they all work!

sweet_rose_tall_cupcake.jpg

You know those weird old school cans of baked brown bread ?  My mother used to serve it with baked beans and mustard, that definitely came from the old school yankee side of the family.   Anyway other than shape this is nothing like that.  Thank goodness tall sliceable cupcakes with rolled fondant outside have been brought to our attention by I don’t think prada is the answer they’re looking for!

A Kissable Honeymoon Lip

September 18th, 2009

MAC Slimshine Lipstick

Hi, Mrs. CityMouse here!  I’m back for a short stint before we leave for our honeymoon.  I’ve been shopping for that perfect honeymoon lipgloss that makes me gorgeous but in a natural not trying too hard way.  Something that on a safari will say “what?  i didn’t wake up at 4:15am to put my makeup on.  that would be crazy!”  Today I found the perfect lip color.  Its like a modern day black honey.  Its MAC Slimshine Lipstick in Prudeaux for $14.50.  It looks a bit purpley on the website but its actually a really nice reddish brown and its just a hint of sheer color and shine in a natural glamour sort of way.

Hair Product Cocktail

September 17th, 2009

godiva1.jpg

I have what I’ll call troubled hair, and I have tried a LOT of hair products.  Recently I have come up with a good drug store product mix thatI thought I would share, because it is cheap, it works for straightening my curly hair as well as wearing it curly, it smells like old fashioned sun tan lotion (mmmm) and a little goes a long way, which is good for me because my super dry hair normally soaks up gallons of product.

So if you have dry curly hair you surely know that the less you touch it when it is wet the better, so arrange your hair as best as you can while still in the shower, then get out and gently squeeze the excess water out.  Then mix two parts ellin lavar liquid motion styling lotion to one part organix coconut milk antibreakage serum and gently smooth it over. Air dry, then flat iron  (I never blow dry).  Or feel free to do the patented CityMouse double bun maneuver, this stuff is great for that.
