Hello, Fall!

At first I thought I was bummed that Fall seems to be upon us. But then I went to Old Navy and now I can’t wait to welcome Fall with open arms!!! I refuse to spend a lot on weekend clothes. The weekend does afterall comprise only 2/7 of my week. Also, I spend the majority of my weekend running errands and that just doesn’t neccesitate high priced clothes. I tend to go for two reliable weekend uniforms each season. Last year my go to outfit was this plaid corduroy dress (hold the tights). Actually, I still love this dress so I’m keeping it in the rotation. But even I need more than one weekend outfit. So, this year I’ve decided to add these tall “suede” boots for $34.50 and this fine wale cord shirtdress $29.50. Unfortunately, from the picture you can’t see the adorable patch pockets on this dress, they’re adorable. Won’t I look ever so slightly bohemian in a still completely preppy way? Ever so slightly is as bohemian as my buttoned up look could ever go without looking like a costume. We were not all born to rock that look in a hardcore way. No your limits, people!

I was blown away by the new Restoration Hardware Catalogue. The incredibly self important copy kind of makes me squirm, but the furniture is soooo pretty. And Huge! I normally don’t like really oversized furniture but this is like small well proportioned furniture that happens to be really, really, so very big, and really expensive. But I am still keeping the catalogue for fun.
And the not at all self important Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams is having a 20% off sale!
The Intuition accessories are up at Target, I like this little variety pack of pouches, they are $16.99

The New York Times had a test of all the “gym in a shoe” footwear out there. I was sad to see that the MBT’s were the only ones reported to be effective, of course, the MBT’s! They are so ugly and so expensive, how they taunt me.
I don’t know what to think of these Crepe stocking/boots from Donald Pliner. Yes, that is all attached. On the one hand they seem a little, I don’t know, ugly, but then they also appear as thought they would be really comfortable. In black; the red wouldn’t be mentally comfortable.

We shared a summer rental of a super modern house in Wellfleet last summer, and after we got back I read about this Cape Cod Modern House Trust. There really are whole neighborhoods of these modern houses nestled in the woods out there, it is amazing!

Ok, so I tried the new “best fitting jeans” at the Gap the other day. I didn’t find them particularly revolutionary. I am kind of a lost cause when it somes to jeans (I am of the bigger hips smaller waist catagory), they hardly ever fit, ever. I have literally one pair that don’t make me cry (thank you Joe’s Jeans!). And that is after trying on probably 600 pairs, the fitting room labor to success ratio is ridiculous. So normally the salesgirls tell me to try the “curvy” fit, but they are weirdly always cut tighter than the others, following my “curves” waaay more accurately than I really need to be on display at Whole Foods. What I really want is jeans that look like the straight legged, slim hipped variety, but secrety have extra room for all of my business. The Gap 1969 jeans are not these, the search continues, my friends!
Here is a picture of a slim hipped woman, god love her, wearing a pair of “curvy” jeans from the new 1969 collection at the Gap. Whoah, check out those curves. My eyes are burning.

Little Maps

This is the kind of little affordable decorative thing that keeps my love of Target alive, this little set of four framed copies of maps is $79, for the four.

I love the mother daughter team over at Old Soul, New Heart. They make adorable retro inspired accessories and also seem pretty darn witty too. Each piece perfectly describes its ideal wearer. The headband shown above, She Gossips, But Quietly would be ideal for me and it’s only $32. I’m generally known for my voice modulation problem but I do manage to take it down several notches when gossiping!

I love this little barbell cocktail shaker, it is on sale for $124 at Ralph Lauren. You can just let it hang around as a decorative object until you need to shake a beverage, and who knows, maybe you could fill it with sand and use it as an actual barbell, like Get in Shape Girl. As a former super sporty little girl I can confirm that nothing in the Get in Shape girl line of toys had any aerobic benefit whatsoever. Remember the swirly ribbon thing? Now I am watching the old commercial and am actually offended, it looks like that Olivia Newton John video about working out. I can’t believe my mother let me get this. She saw fit to ban Barbie but not this?! Very patchy, mum.

There’s a real shortage of cool non-LEM stools out there. There are even fewer if you don’t wnat to spend a ton of money. this is the reason why we continue to not have any barstools at my home. I’m really hoping to remedy this soon, say before Christmas. Are you listening future Mr. CityMouse? I like the shiny simplicity of the Carina Barstool from Z. Gallerie and they’re only $379 per pair. They are also available in black and brown.

Unlike CityMouse I am not getting married in t minus 3 weeks, so I have no excuse for my terrible attendance, I’m not sure what happened to friday, I’m not sure I attended my own life that day. But, I am back. This fabric organizer from PB Teen is pretty cute, I like all the pockets. I have seen several similar on Etsy (in fact this is pretty make-able in general) but many with a wooden dowel at the top, which isn’t really the same thing. This is new and 99$, wait for it to go one sale for sure.

Happy Saturday! What? You thought my earlier post was the Saturday post? No, silly. That was my Thursday post! Now, on with Saturday! How cute is this dress from All the Numbers on Etsy. I found it on FancyPants. The dresses start at $32. Quick, someone have a baby girl! Not it. Continue reading »

I love everything about Tory Burch’s shoes except the price. I especially love the little gold accent piece around the heels of many of her pumps, such a cute detail. So it was love at first sight when I found these Colin Stuart spectator pumps for $59 at Victoria’s Secret. *Swoon* I’m going to get the in the dark cognac, they will go with everything! The thought of Fall shoes is making me dread the end of Summer a little less already.

I really like to have a cream colored waffle tshirt, long sleeved, to wear in the winter. Over the years I have had many men’s long sleeved thermal underwear tops and other variations, but I have often wished some moderately priced retailer would come out with a plain cashmere waffle sweater- and here it is! From LLBean, I hope it isn’t too boxy! That would stink. I know this picture doesn’t look like much but if it is a super soft version of a man’s long underwear top I am in. Anyway the price is right and the super plain-ness is right. And you know how when you buy something at LLBean it’s like the last one of that particulalr thing you’ll ever buy because they replace it when it wears out! Not exactly, but there is a good chance if you drive it up to Freeport with a ripped sweater they will take it back and give you a new one. I have winessed this myself, it’s true!
