You Can’t Hold a Candle to These Candles

We recently got the devastating news that the table cloths for our bar and DJ tables might be… white! The horror. In an attempt to stave off a nervous breakdown I went looking for some inexpensive ways to make those tables a lot more colorful. Cue Ana’s Candles. These triped candles are adorable! A pair of 14″ tapers is $23. Much less expensive than flowers.

You know how some things are waaay more funny at work? For example, I work in a law firm, so if someone sends an office-wide email with even a miniscule amount of sass, I instantly peg that person as “hilarious” and will mention the email several times to my coworkers as such. But then I go home, and I try to tell my husband about something hilarious that happened at work only to find it was not funny after all, just ‘work’ funny (i.e. funny only in a conference room, funny only to those who work with bankers all day). I’m like “so then I put a diet coke on SUE’s desk!!” - cue the uproarous laughter, which alas is actually a blank stare from Mr. CountryMouse. He gets to be with students all day who are legitimately funny so he doesn’t understand.
Anyway I personally think these little fakey road signs from the moma store are funny in a “heh heh” way at home, so if someone had one hanging in their office I would probably be rolling in the hallway. They are $13.50. I personally like the “No Understanding at Any Time,” but the thanks for noticing sign is a close second. That reminds me that our receptionist has a little wooden sign that says “Out of my mind: Back in 5 Minutes” that is HILARIOUS.

It’s A Man’s World

I do generally feel that we live in a man’s world, except of course for in the home and most of all in the kitchen. Despite the fact that the future Mr. CityMouse loves to cook he spent much of Friday night insisting that everything I was to receive at my bridal shower on Saturday was for me. So untrue! But when he came to retrieve me he was pretty psyched to find these Blomus Salt and Pepper Grinders. Its pretty rare that you find a kitchen gadget that men get as excited about as products from the Blomus line. And for you girls, they are awfully nice and do gring your pepper like buttah! The Blomus grinders are on sale for $49.95 (sorry, that’s each not the set). But its well worth the investment if it gets the men in our lives into the kitchen!

I am glad to see someone is watching the blog. I guess I really am old because I am literally still recouping from a drinking binge THREE days ago. By recouping I mean thinking it is ok to eat fast food. Because I am hung over. From three days ago.
Look at these little floral desk clocks from Roost. Oh how I love everything Roost makes. These are like little floral brooches for the bedside table. There is even a little bee on the second hand. $64

We’re back! I think it was overly ambitious for us to think we would return on Sunday. What kind of bachelorette/shower weekend would it have been if we were up and blogging bright and early on Sunday? And speaking of showers, I found this gorgeous lotus nesting bowl set from Koo de Kir thanks to Erin at Elements of Style. As Erin suggests, this would make a really wonderful shower or house warming gift (or a gift to thank bridesmaids for a wonderful shower). Its really functional art. This would look great as a dining room table centerpiece. Its so pretty that I wonder if I’d ever actually use it for mixing things. The set is $95. Expensive for bowls but quite reasonable for sculpture!

I love this little train case make up bag from Cole Haan, it is a little stand up box with a mirror inside. I look forward to a day in the future when I ma not applying makeup in the car or after I get to work, but that day is not here, so I do carry make up around. Of course this is more like a small purse so I could leave my gigantic bag at home and pretend I am organized. it is $128.00

It’s A Wrap

I have been searching high a low for an affordable hot pink wrap for my bridesmaids. Its outrageous how much some stores want for what is essentially a lerge square of fabric. So, I finally decided to check Target (sorry girls, I promise this isn’t your only gift) and they have very cute wraps for only $12.99. They’re also on the smaller side so that they can be worn as scarves post-wedding. I’m all about being able to re-purpose wedding items.

This adorable tile print tunic/ kaftan is on sale at Boden for $31! The print reminds of swimming pool liners, and you can never have enough beach/pool/pajama/cookout ware.
Also in the Boden sale section, this hat for 11!

This Cracker Loves Crackers
When I was little I wanted to be an actress. At my first audition (age 5) the director asked me my ethnicity I told him I was a cracker. The director thought I was hilarious but I was just answering honestly. But back to today’s post about, what else, crackers. I firmly believe that the key to weight loss is fiber. Fiber both fills you up and helps things work there way thru you. These new cheese crackers from the geniuses at Fiber Gourmet have 80 calories and 12 grams of fiber (take that yogurt that makes you poop)! A case of 6 boxes is just $24, that’s 36 individual serving size packets.
