Icicle’s Melt Dress
What a pretty dress and appropriately named for this time of year, the Icicle’s* Melt dress. It is on sale at Athropologie, still it’s $199 (was $388), which is pushing it, I think, but it is forgiven for the beady “melting” drops embroidery. This would be a great Easter dress or church dress, or for work. The black one I guess would be best for an office but the green and white will really look nice against a backdrop of peeps. Even though it is on sale the remaining sizes available are 2,4,6 and 8, you know, the ones in the middle- it’s a Spring sale miracle!
*I have never been less sure about the correct spelling of a word until just now typing Icicle, but the internet assures me this is correct.

I love retro bikes. I want to own one almost as much as I want to be the type of person who regularly rides a bike. Really, I swear that if I had this Club Monaco Limited Edition Gazelle (originally designed in 1892 for the Dutch royal family) I would ride it every sunny weekend to and from Whole Foods. Sadly, after paying $995 for this bike I would not actually be able to afford anything at Whole Food but I would make a few circles around the parking lot before pedaling back home. And the best thing about this bike is that I wouldn’t even need to hang it up in the bike room when I was done with it. Its so darn good looking I could park it right in my living room. Obviously, the second best thing about this bike is that I could ride it while wearing a big floral skirt. I’m going to buy a lottery ticket this week in the hopes that I’ll win big and be able to make this bike mine. Would it be weird if I registered at Club Monaco?

There are a bunch of good new Mossimo shoes at Target right now, and cheap as ever of course, all under $30! A lot of the Mossimo stuff is a little young, covered wih buckles, etc., for me, but these are all nicely bauble and buckle free, and can be worn with dresses, key for me.

These are navy!

A Lotta Links

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe how cold and gloomy this weekend has turned out. The weatherman clearly promised warm and sunny, but no dice. As with most cold and dreary weekends my plan for Sunday is to spend most of the day cooking. I found this recipe for carmelized onion and goat cheese cornbread at Smitten Kitchen. Doesn’t it look to die for? I am definitely trying this tomorrow. My other plans for tomorrow are (1) to meet my bridesmaids for some dress shopping and (2) obsess about furnishing my new condo. I was also planning to make time for a stop off at J.Crew until I read on J.Crew Afficionada that J.Crew has issued new 25% off cards to their most loyal customers. What gives Mickey? I checked my mail today and there was nothing! I’m not going to needlessly pay an additional 25% when their could be a money saving card in the mail. And on the topic of J.Crew, J.Crewaholics have a sneak peak of the Fall line. I hate to jump the gun on Fall since Summer hasn’t even arrived yet but they have some really cute things. Last spring I had a bright yellow textured linen coat from JCrew that I loved, but as I’ve mentioned here it engendered sooo much small talk from elevator mates and coffe shop people by its brightness I almost wouldn’t wear it on days I didn’t feel up to talking to strangers (2-4 days per week). But here it is a year later and I am loving all the bright yellow striped things that are everywhere, a bright yellow sripe is even louder than just yellow!
Kate Spade Skirt, $275 (ouch, but there is a 30% off code out there right now). This is so cute. There was an even cuter dress that seems to be gone. Gap TShirt, $12.99. Bathing suit Victoria’s Secret, $15 for the top and $14.50 for the bottom (who knew VS bathing suits were so cheap?).
Jones New York trench, $169. I’m not 100% sure about this one, especially the smaller stripes at the top, but points for being bright and striped!
Anthropologie askew stripe skirt, $148. I love this.

Last weekend I was at Banana Republic and was blown away by the crazy sales. It was like they were gicing a way clothes. Oooo, and shoes too. They have some really great shoes right now. So imagine my delight when I received an e-mail this morning that those already crazy affordable sale items were now an additional 20% off. I’m definitely going to pickup the Whitney patent flat in clay which are $55.99 with the discount. I also really love them in coral but I just can’t resist the versatility of clay. I’ve also had my eye on the Zelda patent slingbacks for a while and they’re now only $47.99. I think I’ll also get this silk wrap dress for $71.99. And I like the shoes she is wearing and they’re on sale too! The Riley open-toed sling backs are $63.99.

We’re not Gonna Live Here Anymore.

This is the title of a song written recently by CityMouse, it is an angry song to portray her (”we’re”) feelings about camping (”to live”) in a small apartment in Medford (”here”) on a temporary basis (”not…anymore”) while her fancy condo is being completed (”going”). I thinks she sings it to Mr. CountryMouse while she burns all the Chadwicks catalogues that come with the apartment. Sung to the tune of the “Twisted Sister” classic from Stay Hungry of course. She’ll never stay hungry at her apartment complex because it has a billion restaurants, all under the same roof. Anyway I thought I would share because I thought it was pretty hilarious, and reminds me of other great hits from the past, such as ”Blueberry Pie: I love You” a very literal song. This is what you would call a “slice of life” post I believe.

I haven’t really had much use for all the 100 calorie packs of everything that are available now, although I think they are a great idea. I just don’t really buy cookies at the grocery store, because I am picky about cookies, and I can’t have numerous servings of something like that in my kitchen due to my sweet tooth and oral fixation- better to just buy one big pancake sized cookie at a bakery miles from my home. And the 100 calorie packs of chips, crackers, or whatever aren’t of interest to me because why eat those salty things when I could be eating a cookie?
But these Wholly Guacamole 100 calorie packs are sooo useful for me- I love avocados, but hate making guacomole because the leftovers develop that scary brown crust in the fridge- yuck. I know about the lemon juice thing, but still little peaks sometimes stick through the juice and turn brown and freak me out. I have an irrational hatred of all leftovers so a leftover with a brown crust has no chance with me. Anyway these little packs are a little plastic pouch of super yummy guacamole with no browness whatsoever, and are calorie rationed (key for avocado). I have had some in my fridge for over a week and they are still daisy fresh. I love these and feel a little hole in my heart has been filled with lovely green guacamole. My package of six tubes caused about 5$ at Stop and Shop.

You know how when you move in to a new home you receive tons of random new catalogs from stores that you would never consider buying anything from? I get those all the time now. Most of the time I immediately throw them in the trash. But today I received the Chadwicks catalog and because it was pretty thin I flipped thru it on the elevator ride up to our (fake and temporary) home. Much to my surprise I saw not one but two items that I thought had definite potential. The dress pictured above is on sale for $49.99, not too shabby. I also think this textured suit has real potential. Its a cotton linen blend. Nothing synthetic about that! And, best of all, its $59.99. No, that’s not the price of the skirt. That’s for the ENTIRE SUIT. Seriously!

That Coat
I just saw this article from Elle, via the Huffington Post, it is about the MichelleObamaniacs and their new and exciting (for Washington) fashion sense. Anyway, words words words, but what do I spy but my very favorite Isaac Mizrahi Liz Claiborne windowpane plaid coat over the arm of Heather Higginbottom in the middle? I would know that polka dot lining anywhere. Nice topper Heather Higginbottom.
