Robery Pattinson- Vanity Fair

Happy weekend!  I just got home from seeing New Moon.  Much better than the first Twilight movie in my opinion, but in fairness I went in with very low expectations.  While I admittedly find Robert Pattinson in need of a good srubbing when I see him in interviews, I do enjoy his sparkly good looks in Twilight.  For those of you Twihards who just can’t get enough, check out this post over at Elements of Style about creating the perfect Twilight inspired bedroom in a completely uncreepy and sophisticated way. I was really excited to see that the Norma Kamali line at Walmart is not only very wearable but truly cheap. most things are under 25$.  The adjustable dress above seems to be the favorite around the office, but there are some other cute weekend clothes too, like the batwing sweatshirt cardigan below.  The wrappy dress is only available in Large right now, but I think many mediums can make it work by the magic of adjustability, here’s hoping.

Here are some of the other things, look how cute.  You could get an entire vacation wardrobe for less than 100$!!

After a recent 200$ dry cleaning bill I decided to invest in a steamer, something I have “always” wanted.  I got the Rowenta precision valet rolling steamer for $139 at Target, and spent the rest of the day steaming my heart out, even the drapes.  I may have also hugged the steamer.

This is an “Up” themed cake from Ohdeedoh, just when you think there couldn’t possibly be another thing done with cupcakes.  Whoever said doughnuts were the new cupcakes was seriously deranged.

Desire to Inspire had a link to GardenHouse, which sells adorable outside/inside furniture, mainly of the old school iron type.  I love this pink coffee table, it is $450.  Also great for craigs list-painting inspiration!

This “urban cottage” housetour is so pretty, I have a (sub) urban cottage  with a kitchen crisis and this is really helping.

DwellStudio - Gate Java Placemats

Happy Sunday.  Sorry I missed Bloggorhea yesterday.  It will return next weekend (after I spend the morning camped out to be the first personn into H&M for the new Jimmy Choo line).  This weekend I was just too preoccupied with getting our home ready for the holidays to devote an adequate amount of time to web surfing.  Next to a roasting pan, the most crucial element to hosting a successful Thanksgiving dinner is owning a table.  We sold our old dining room table along with our old condo and so just last week I insisted that we get a new one.  Its BEAUTIFUL. Its the Hicks Table from West Elm, only we got ours on Craig’s List for far less.  The only problem with our beautiful bargain find is that plates sound like they are crashing down onto it no matter how gingerly we place them on the table.  So now I feel that we have to have placemats before Thanksgiving.  I love Chilwich placemats but everyone we know has them so I feel compelled to do something different.  So I found these new Dwell placemats that I think could be perfect.  A set of 4 is $24.  They have a certain KWID quality that I really like and they have coordinating cocktail napkins!  And nothing says “please ignore the fact that we don’t own a sofa” quite like coordinating cocktail napkins!

Farrow & Ball Fall 2009 Color Predictions

Happy Sunday!  I know bloggorhea normally happens on Saturday, but you may have noticed that I haven’t exactly been on the ball altely and I figured its better late than never!  In order to avoid post-wedding withdrawal I have thrown myself into a new project- decorating our home.   We already had a pretty good idea of what we wanted as far as our color pallette but and it turns out al the design  magazine brain washing has worked and what we have selected is one of Farrow & Ball’s Fall color predictions.  Check them all out over at Material Girls.  I hope this doesn’t mean that 5 years from now my living room will look “so 2009.” Continue reading »

marthahot.jpg

I think I spell “bloggorhea” differently every time I do one of these posts.  It’s ok because it is a not a word, Diarrhea is a word.  However I pretty much never type that because I am not in the medical field and when ever else would you be discussing that in print, never.  Anyway I am aware that I have been doing a terrible job keeping an eye on the shop while CityMouse is away on her honeymoon, we have been having some majorly disruptive busy-ness at my house.  Every week I think we couldn’t be more busy and then we are.

Anywho, I have been looking around the www to some extent, mainly to try to forget my long/impossible to do list (mature). Was anyone else blown away by these pictures of a young hot Martha Stewart?  From Apartment Therapy.  I mean obviously she is a good looking lady, and I know from many readings of New Old House she was very pretty in her younger years in that wool sweater connecticut way, but I love these fashion stare down pictures, if that were me I would keep these photos on my fridge at all times.  She looks like she is going to make some fabulous homeade cheddar with that cow’s milk after the shoot.

beadboardbath.jpg

I am interested in these open shelving in the bathroom photos that were on Absolutely Beautiful Things, because I have been doing some woodwork around the house (moulding) and I’m wondering whether something like this could be installed in my bathroom.  I have a small cottage-style house and I’m finding covering everything in sight with beadboard is really helping things.  I also happen to have a land camera collection  because my father worked at Polaroid long ago, I like how some old cameras are displayed up there.

I am sooo excited about Lonny magazine, could this fill the Domino-sized hole in my heart?  For some reason I wasn’t really understanding the fact that it is an online magazine: I knew it was’t paper, but  I was expecting a gallery heavy website, or something, but it is literally an online magazine, with links, nothing else.  This is making me sound like a idiot.  Anyway go read it!  It is exciting.

I just bought a “value sized” bag of Brach’s autumn mix, and proceeded to eat about 20 pumpkins.  That never sits well.  I can’t resist candy corn, so I usually buy one bag per year, in October, and keep it at that.  The pumpkins always make me sick! It’s like those enormous egg shaped peanut butter cups, they are just too much,  too much and yet never enough.

stool.jpgtrunk.jpg

When I first saw that Cindy Crawford was doing a home line for JCPenney I thought, why?   But  then I saw this little bamboo stool in InStyle and ran right over to check it out, and it is really good.  these little white nailhead trim cubes are $169 and I love the white color, kind of hard to find white at this price point.

paints.jpg

So I am toying with the idea of painting my house gray, I say ” my house” instead of a particular room because I kind of only have one room in my little cottage, it is a litchen.  or a kiving room.  anyway I had a little pot of what I thought was the most beauifuly gray in the world, pale oak from Benjamin Moore, but after doing a test spot I see that it is very lilac.

paleoak.jpg

I like lilac but really don’t want a lilac litchen.   So now I realize that gray paint is really, really difficult to execute in the way it looks in your mind.  And aparently many, many people have gone through this before me, thank goodness.   I think I am going to try out Silver Fox, it seems very popular among the bloggers, and they are usually pretty on the ball.  If anyone has a suggestion for a muddy, yet bright, not too white, definitely grey but not periwinkle, not greige, color I would really appreciate it.  I have a lot of bright white trim.

wool.jpg

Yes, this wool and the gang knit your own scarf kit is $85, a.k.a the cost of an actual completed scarf, but it is a cute gift nonetheless and comes with a FREE 80’s band reference and pun!  It’s so inviting to me.

flowerbomb.jpgI

and now for the “favorite things” division;  I can’t get enough of flowerbomb by Victor and Rolf.   Whenever I get near it I want to drink it.  I haven’t bought it because I just bought this, but it is next on my list, for sure.  I just stocked up in sample cards and I can’t stop sniffing them!  Please smell this if you haven’t already.

Also, this kind mango macadamia bar is sooo delicious.  Despite the fact that it has macadamias and is super sweet and delicious, so so delicious, it only has 190 calories and is pretty filling.

Apartment therapy suggested framing these amazing wrapping paper sheets from cavalinni; framing wrapping paper is a great idea, it’s just so often it is a running pattern, these are single motifs, and less than 5 $!

As I’ve mentioned 2-30o times, my son is allergic to wheat.  Through his allergy I have learned that my capacity to be thin is also allergic to wheat.  Seriously, if I cut out wheat within 24 hours my shoes are loose, my wedding ring is loose, and I am congratulating myself for miraculously achieving a fast metabolism through force of will  (it always takes me a few days to accept it’s just the wheat).  Anyway CityMouse’s wedding was a crazy wheat fest of delicious food that left me looking like I was actually encased in a loaf of bread.  So I am back on the no wheat plan, I feel better already! Here is an awesome round up of gluten free cookie recipes (come on it’s autumn!).  I have tried many of the recipes on this site and they all work!

sweet_rose_tall_cupcake.jpg

You know those weird old school cans of baked brown bread ?  My mother used to serve it with baked beans and mustard, that definitely came from the old school yankee side of the family.   Anyway other than shape this is nothing like that.  Thank goodness tall sliceable cupcakes with rolled fondant outside have been brought to our attention by I don’t think prada is the answer they’re looking for!

Hey there, remember me?  Sorry I’ve been such a air weather friend lately.  I know I won’t have time to post tomorrow (breakfast with NutritionMouse ND, Core Fusion, wig busting, group dance class, private dance lesson and then on to my friend MousyMouse’s wedding) so I’m stopping in today to bring you a link.  That’s right, just one!  But its a good one.   I found these skin-tone leather sandals by Trove Tkees over at Laurin and Kelly Talk.  There’s a shade to match almost every skin tone!  Not suprisingly they’re all the rage with celebs because they really elongate the leg.  You can pick up a pair here for $44, but sadly many shades are on back order.  I wonder if a pair that ships on 9/15 would get to me in time for my honeymoon departure on 9/22.  Did you know that in South Africa they call them slip slops?  Weird.

I was blown away by the new Restoration Hardware Catalogue.  The incredibly self important copy kind of makes me squirm, but the furniture is soooo pretty.  And Huge!  I normally don’t like really oversized furniture but this is like small well proportioned furniture that happens to be really, really, so very big, and really expensive.  But I am still keeping the catalogue for fun.

And the not at all self important Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams is having a 20% off sale!

The Intuition accessories are up at Target, I like this little variety pack of pouches, they are $16.99

intuititionbags.jpg

The New York Times had a test of all the “gym in a shoe” footwear out there.  I was sad to see that the MBT’s were the only ones reported to be effective, of course, the MBT’s! They are so ugly and so expensive, how they taunt me.

I don’t know what to think of these Crepe stocking/boots from Donald Pliner.  Yes, that is all attached.   On the one hand they seem a little, I don’t know, ugly, but then they also appear as thought they would be really comfortable.  In black; the red wouldn’t be mentally comfortable.

We shared a summer rental of a super modern house in Wellfleet last summer, and after we got back I read about this Cape Cod Modern House Trust.  There really are whole neighborhoods of these modern houses nestled in the woods out there, it is amazing!

cape-cod-modern-1_rect540.jpg

Ok, so I tried the new “best fitting jeans” at the Gap the other day.  I didn’t find them particularly revolutionary.  I am kind of a lost cause when it somes to jeans (I am of the bigger hips smaller waist catagory), they hardly ever fit, ever.  I have literally one pair that don’t make me cry (thank you Joe’s Jeans!).  And that is after trying on  probably 600 pairs, the fitting room labor to success ratio is ridiculous.  So normally the salesgirls tell me to try the “curvy” fit, but they are weirdly always cut tighter than the others, following my “curves” waaay more accurately than I really need to be on display at Whole Foods.   What I really want is jeans that look like the straight legged, slim hipped variety, but secrety have extra room for all of my business. The Gap 1969 jeans are not these, the search continues, my friends!

Here is a picture of a slim hipped woman, god love her, wearing a pair of “curvy” jeans from the new 1969 collection at the Gap.  Whoah, check out those curves.  My eyes are burning.

All the Numbers Dress

Happy Saturday!  What?  You thought my earlier post was the Saturday post?  No, silly.  That was my Thursday post!  Now, on with Saturday!  How cute is this dress from All the Numbers on Etsy.  I found it on FancyPants.  The dresses start at $32.  Quick, someone have a baby girl!  Not it.  Hi Gang!

bedroom.jpg

Apartment Therapy has a post on decorating pet peeves, and of course there are a million and one responses in the comments.  flat screens! matchy matchy! etc.  I really only have one decorating pet peeve, and that is “lifestyle” hints on display.  Often in the form of a rareified shopping list on a blackboard (capers, cornish hens), schedule (polo match, monthly trip to paris), I don’t like feeling like I’m supposed to be impressed.  The pottery barn catalogue was FULL of these a few years back, and I have sadly seen them in real life.  So, that was my judgmental thought for the day.   And, I am a jerk.

Oh heavens to tutti frutti, isn’t the pink and green frog fabric  fabove from JCarolyn Creative very cute for a little girl’s room?  Maybe this isn’t for everyone, but I love it.  Some of them are actually in the act of catching flies with their tongue.  I love this site, it’s as if all the loud fabrics on earth are gathered in one place, many of them pink.

I went over to a Sea of Shoes to check to see whether the author is still a million times cooler than me (yes she is) and saw this kid-decorated chair project.  I remember the scribble-dy couch that inspired the project, it was’t for me, but a great idea for a kid’s space.  My son has been carving pictures of spider man into our leather coach with his thumb nail, but that’s not really the same thing.

chairsos.jpg

I really haven’t watched any tv show regularly since the end of the greatest show of all time, drama, Six Feet Under, but I have been looking at the old Mad Men seasons and I am pretty exciting for the new one tonight! My husband works with a professor who looks and acts like the men in this show, except more tweedy, and his office is also frozen in mad men time, it is crazy.  He has a rotary phone in his office, no computer.  Oh to be brilliant and rich.
